Do I need to change my tactics playing pocket rockets (AA) to maximize their potential? Please see my comment (above) to John Dibling. |

Do I need to change my tactics playing pocket rockets (AA) to maximize their potential? That's true if your opponents have no history. I take the question to mean that the OP's opponents have a "tight" history, which speaks to opponents' tendencies and opponent's likely range as well. Then would you start trying to steal hands with e.g. 2-2? And this is "pre flop," so there is no "board texture." |

Small Pairs on early and middle positions @DmitriyNaumov: That's true if the table is "loose aggressive." If "loose passive" (all calls and few raises), no. Telling the difference is one of the keys to winning in poker. |

Do I need to change my tactics playing pocket rockets (AA) to maximize their potential? Yes, it seems that your opponents are "tight," and in your shoes, I would "limp" with aces. More to the point, I would raise with 2-2, and try to "steal" hands against such opponents, until I'm "caught." Then they'll start calling AA. |

Do I need to change my tactics playing pocket rockets (AA) to maximize their potential? @TobyBooth: The "thrust" (or intent) of my edit was to narrow the question to, "now that I've been confronted with a "tight" field, should I "slowplay" by limping and re-raising?" Maybe I should have made that more explicit in my edit. I also constructed an answer to the "narrow" question in the comment below, which I would like to be able to convert to a "full" answer. |

Should you use average value or marginal value when deciding which hands to play? @Azinut: I believe it was Sklansky and Malmuth (Hold 'em for Advanced Players). I have since lost the book, but believe that the example was toward the end (last one-third or one fourth). |

Should you use average value or marginal value when deciding which hands to play? IMHO, only QQ and AK suited are truly level 1 hands on the "Sklansky" continuum. I'd call AA and KK "Super 1's," they're basically "off the charts" compared to other hands. |

How do you bet pre-flop when there's no action, you're on the button, and you have pocket rockets? @Walkman: If you are on the button with no bets in "front," you are effectively "short handed" with the blinds. Even at a "full table." |

Do I need to change my tactics playing pocket rockets (AA) to maximize their potential? changed thrust of question to "where do I go from here?" rather than "what do I do (from scratch)"? |
