This is a common paradigm used by thousands of people across all SE sites.

Apr 27	comment	What does 'freerolling' mean? In addition to a freeroll, there is also a reverse freeroll, in which there is limited or no upside to a particular gamble. Consider a situation in which you have bottom straight on a 4 flush board. If you bet and get action, there is often little chance your hand will win the whole pot, and very often you will lose the whole pot.

In addition to what Jeffrey has said, consider that it is often better to bluff a busted straight when a flush comes than to bluff a busted flush when a straight comes. This is certianly not universal, but straights have a tendancy to be more well-hidden than flushes.

Volatility will also be higher but we, as sufficiently-rolled poker players, should not be worried about volatility; only long-term winrate.

As the game is played by more and more people, the state of the art evolves, and the books that were once considered to be the Gold Standard may provide suboptimal advice for contemporary games.
Feb 27	comment	Classic Books for Texas Hold'Em IMO this book was terrible. Not for PH's attitude, but for his advice. He advocates a weak-tight style that limit's a players ability to win or to learn. I would stay away from this book.
