I am an independent developer interested in startups, gambling software (especially poker), and web technologies. I write mostly JavaScript these days, most recently multiplayer games leveraging Web Sockets.

comment How to play online horse tournament when you lack knowledge in one of the games?
It's certainly possible to do well at Stud Hi-Low and poorly at regular Stud. I'm not sure we can think of the Hi game as a completely separate component in Hi-Low, enough to say studying one automatically improves the other. (It helps to know the rules, though :).) Your question answers itself: either avoid putting in a lot of money against better Stud players, or get better at Stud (how to do this is too broad of a question).

comment NL200 Zoom: Top 2-Pair Deepstacked @ Wet Board
moteutsch, I think you're right about 98, but I now think check-calling is best even with 98 calling 100% of the time because Villain only needs to bluff with the given air range a third of the time, which would need to be very overestimated to make check-calling worse than a turn ship. That is to say, shipping is +EV, but I believe check-calling the turn planning on check-calling the river gains you 20-30BB in comparison. OP you should probably unaccept my answer, as I wouldn't want a flawed analysis checkmarked :).

comment How to count the power of cards in hand?
That's a bold statement, although any effort to improve hand evaluators is great even though the code out there now is plenty fast :). Some areas of poker I think could use more tools are Omaha Hi (data visualization and user interface), Holdem game tree analysis (improvement on CardRunners EV and the now-defunct Pokerazor), and better poker mobile apps.

comment Raising after an all in
Note that in Limit games, there is a half-size rule where betting reopens if the all-in raise is at least half the minimum. This rule is sometimes wrongly applied to No Limit games by casino floors, which would wrongly allow further raises in your example had the big blind gone all-in for 2200.

I think the "strength of a hand" part of your question is fine, but it can be asked in a more focused way which makes it easier to answer a specific concept - otherwise there's too much territory to cover.

comment Is there an optimum formula for deciding chip denominations?
The asker's game might be using chips with "$20" printed on them. Otherwise I agree the standard casino denominations work nicely.

comment Texas Hold'em and pocket ace
Those are the odds of receiving aces (or any specific pair), which is just 6 combinations {AcAd,AcAh,AcAs,AdAh,AdAs,AhAs} divided by 1,326 possible (52 choose 2). Depending on how you read the question, the odds of winning with AA against one random hand are 85.204% and with Ax against one random hand are 61.14%.
