Yes - one or more players may hold one or more of your outs. A bit long to go into but a lot of poker is making the best decision on incomplete information. For that reason, you play a lot more starting hands heads up than you would with full ring.

52 - 18 (hole cards) - 3 (flop) leaves 31 cards. Probability on turn for hitting an out card is 8/31. Probability on river for hitting an out card is 8/30. Added together gives 52.47%. In practice you'd be better served looking at the pot odds each betting round rather than raw percentages though.

OK, the odds of hitting the straight post-flop were about 52% then but I'd still question the pre-flop call.

Have to agree with Ray. That is a little too much action to be calling with JQo. All you could have done is come over the top pre-flop but that would have been risky given your hand. After seeing the open-ended draw, I can see why you pressed on after this as the odds are generally favourable with the turn and river left.

When you say programes - do you mean software applications or TV shows?

comment Is there a site that compares “effective” rake?
By lowest effective rake, I assume you mean the average rake that one would pay. Assuming you have different rates across the SB/BB levels, that would rather depend on what level your punters choose to play. Obviously you could tweak this on the fly but it would be bad for business if it turned out you were promoting a rate that most of your players weren't actually getting because say, they all chose to play the smaller stake tables.

comment How does the strategy for Omaha and Hold Em vary pre-flop?
OK, thanks. I've had a stab at making the question a little more specific by concentrating on pre-flop play.

comment How To Recognize Addiction To Gambling?
Whilst it is true that poker is not a pure game of chance like some others, the fact that there is a risk and reward element certainly makes it gambling and hence addictive.

comment Research on the effect of a screen name or avatar in online poker
On some sites e.g. Pokerstars, you can block images. Not sure if there is an option to block usernames on any site - e.g. make all players: Player 1, Player 2 etc. Another thing to consider along with name and image is table chat. What you say (as in real life) also contributes to your image. If a player is on tilt, I'm more likely to call/re-raise against their hand as the tendency is often for players to play wilder/looser after a beat to recoup their losses.

Very difficult to quantify. Hero might actually be playing a certain way because of their name/image rather than villains being subconsciously affected by the hero's name/image. There is a whole branch of science dedicated to how selected avatars drive our behaviour: bitchbuzz.com/tech/can-avatars-change-our-behaviour.html
